After the horrible massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, the Bishop of Greensburg (where I grew up) commissioned me to do this painting of a lion and a lamb. I included the stained glass window from the synagogue in the background. The painting was a gift to the synagogue to show the diocese's solidarity with the Jewish community.
As a Catholic artist, I was honored and humbled to create this painting. Pope John Paul II called members of the Jewish faith "our beloved brothers in the faith of Abraham, our Patriarch." Christians and Jews have a special bond, as "we draw our nourishment from the same spiritual roots" (Pope Benedict XVI). I am praying for the Jewish community especially at this time. "The world in which we live needs beauty in order not to sink into despair." (JPII) Art has a powerful way of aiding in healing and I hope my painting does that. It is a symbol of peace, hope, and love against all odds. I created a pro-life sticker! The design is made up completely of my sonogram paintings. Available on Etsy with free shipping!
"After getting my job, I adopted my baby boy Bailey. I fell in love instantly with his dorky ears, his want to sleep under the blankets just like his momma, his perseverance in never giving up that darn rope, his cuddly nature, and his ability to totally let down his guard around me despite his rough start. He quickly became my best friend... Due to extremely unfortunate events, Bailey was put down this past December. I held him while he took his last breath."
-Bailey's mom, Hannah Very happy to have had the opportunity to memorialize Bailey's life in this special painting. A sonogram painting is a personal, thoughtful, meaningful gift to cherish forever - literally forever! I mean, the car seats and baby bouncers will eventually be sent to Goodwill, but their baby's first portrait will only become more valuable as time passes. Click here to join my email list!

It's time to TRAVEL! I'll be volunteering in Africa this summer so I'm putting all sonogram orders on hold until August. Feel free to contact me at ArtByCaitlinSolan@gmail.com if you have any questions! I'm excited to donate this painting to "The Cure Starts Now" for their silent auction at their Gala. This nonprofit is fighting to eliminate cancer and has funded over $5.8 million in pediatric cancer research!
